Eligibility Criteria for Getty Multicultural Undergraduate Intern Candidates

Internships are intended for members of groups underrepresented in professions related to museums and the visual arts, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent. Intern candidates are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.  

You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate and have completed at least one semester of college by June 2018. Students graduating in May or June 2018 are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible). You must be a resident of or attend college in Los Angeles County. 

The Marketing and Communications (MC) Intern works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications and Marketing and Social Media Manager to develop and implement innovative marketing strategies that effectively attract and retain a diverse and large audience for The Broad, help with marketing and outreach for programs, and assists with The Broad’s social media digital platforms and public relations.

The Marketing and Communications intern professionally and efficiently supports The Broad’s onsite, online, and off-site marketing projects, including social media, digital marketing, community and press relations, copywriting, and other duties as assigned.

Working closely with museum staff across multiple departments, the MC intern will play an active role in promoting The Broad’s summer events and exhibitions through a variety of marketing and communications strategies.

The Marketing and Communications intern will also provide administrative support to the Marketing and Communications teams as needed.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with social media strategy, research, and campaign development
  • Contribute to strategy for covering summer events utilizing social media
  • Produce multimedia content (photography, videography, etc.) for social media
  • Create reports on social media and email marketing efforts
  • Work on larger marketing and advertising initiatives for exhibitions and programs
  • Keep up-to-date and complete archives of all marketing and communications initiatives
  • Research, plan, and execute outreach efforts for programs
  • Provide additional day-of staffing support for Broad programs
  • Post all exhibitions and programs to various online calendars
  • Contribute ideas and support updating and continuing to evolve website
  • Assist with press lists and fulfilling press inquiries
  • Facilitate press inquiries and escort press while onsite
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Present on work completed throughout internship
  • Other duties as assigned

The Marketing and Communications intern will learn the foundational skills necessary to understand the role of marketing within a contemporary art museum, along with gaining a basic understanding of strategies and tactics to effectively achieve marketing goals. The intern will also be allowed to take initiative in assessing, making suggestions for improvement, and creating concepts for additional marketing efforts. The Marketing and Communications intern will gain a first hand understanding of digital marketing, special event promotions, and press protocol in a fast-paced, progressive environment. The internship will also include an opportunity to meet with various members of The Broad staff, to gain a holistic understanding of how the museum operates.

Schedule

The Getty Multicultural internship is for 10 consecutive weeks between June 4 and August 24, 2018.  This is a full-time (40 hours/week) internship.  The typical schedule will be 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday, however some evening and weekend work may also be required.

Stipend

The intern will receive a $5,500 stipend for the 10-week internship.
